Nightmare In Jacksonville

Not Just a Bad Dream; A Nightmare In Jacksonville

It was a nightmare in Jacksonville when a man was found lying in a pool of blood by his daughter. The front door was partially open, the screen was slashed. John D. was stabbed multiple times. The drawers were ransacked, belongings scattered everywhere throughout the apartment.

Was this a random robbery gone bad? Did the intruder expect there would be no one home when he broke in? Did he start by finding John D. in bed? Had there been a struggle?

These were just a few of the questions the daughter had in addition to the shock and horror from finding her father.

The mattress was saturated with blood. There’s no point in trying to salvage it. Blood was all over the carpet in the bedroom as well.

The living room was in complete shambles. The couch cushions were slashed as if they were looking for something hidden. Drugs? Who knows. From the looks of the place, John D. was an average man, no lavish furnishings or anything indicating he had a lot of money.

Crime scenes like this one remind me of those detective shows like CSI. The forensics people come in and take samples, fingerprints. After they leave we come in and start the cleanup work.

Death Seen In Smyrna

The Trip Ended In Tragedy This Year

Every year four guys from Smyrna, GA took a fishing trip to a cabin by the lake which one of them owned. One of the men stayed behind while the others went on their usual all night fishing trip. When they returned they found him shot to death in the head. He had killed himself.

The guys were all shocked and bewildered as this trip was something they all looked forward to every year. They had the job of calling his wife and family at home.

The questions they had were nothing compared to what his wife had. How long had he been planning to do this? Why did he do it on the fishing trip? We were called in to cleanup but we couldn’t answer any of the questions. All we could do is offer a sympathetic ear and do our job.

Suicide Is Such A Difficult Loss For Anyone

In these situations we try to go in and return things to normal as quickly as possible. The blast from a self inflicted shotgun to the head leaves a horrible trail, the walls, the floor, the curtains, the bedspreads all had spatters on them. Everywhere in the cabin had some evidence of the suicide. Even after we clean it the memories will be here. I doubt the guys will ever feel the same about coming here.

There were empty whiskey bottles and pill bottles in the garbage. I’m sure all the guys had some drinking but I wondered how much the one that shot himself had and how pany pills he mixed with it.

To Die Alone In Tennessee

Johnson City Man Found Dead After Two weeks

This is just part of the scene. Whatever the cause of death, the body decomposed to the point that there was a tremendous stench throughout the whole house.

After several days a dead body will start to seep fluids and blood. This is a terrible sight for anyone to see, especially family. The family of this man had been away on vacation and he wasn’t found until they returned.

There’s never enough words to comfort a person in these situations. All we can do is offer our sympathy and listen. We try to do our job as quickly as possible to return the home back to its original state.

This involves blood cleanup and odor removal in depth as the smell of death and decomposition has a way of permeating everything in its path.

Family members are often so devastated by the death of their loved one they shouldn’t be expected to try to clean up a scene like this. Not only would it be extremely difficult to do emotionally, they are not trained to do it properly.

There are standards set by OSHA and the EPA and specific steps that should be followed to deal with bodily fluids to avoid contamination and exposure to possible harmful pathogens and bio-hazardous waste.

It Is Not Pleasant But It Is A Necessary Process

ABT professionals are trained in treatment and removal of biohazardous waste and body fluids.
