Trauma Cleanup – Not Every Call We Get at ABT Involves Death
Though I admit that sometimes it seems like we see our fair share of the grim reaper’s handiwork.
However, we are sent out occasionally to crime or accident scenes that didn’t end in someone’s family member or loved one dying. These cases are quite often a welcomed break from the ones that involve a more gruesome nature.
Take my recent trip to Canton, Ohio for instance. I got the call on a Monday morning that we were needed to clean a car. At first I thought that it would be related to an accident or suicide… We get a lot of calls, unfortunately, for poor souls choosing to end their lives inside of their car, perhaps because they have nowhere else to go.
Surprisingly, it was not that type of clean up job as it was explained to me that though there would be some blood to remove, the vast majority of the job involved the removal of fingerprint dust from an SUV in the center of a car-jacking investigation.
When we arrived at the location of the vehicle, it was clear that the SUV had been thoroughly gone over with the crime technicians dust… it covered nearly every surface in the darn thing! Crime scenes like this one remind me of those detective shows like CSI. The forensics people come in and take samples, fingerprints. After they leave we come in and start the cleanup work.
As for the blood, it was only a small amount, along with some vomit on the floor board. It is important to emphasize that even a small amount of blood, vomit, urine, feces and other bodily fluids can contain dangerous pathogens which can jeopardize your health included AIDS/HIV, Hepatitis and MRSA. Add dangerous chemicals to the mix and your best bet is to call the professionals at ABT. We have the expertise and equipment to get the job done quickly while meeting your insurance company’s standards and yours.
As I began my work, a detective working on the crime told me all about what happened. Apparently, while sitting at a light in an unsavory part of town, the victim had been approached by two men wearing masks armed with semi-automatic weapons. They told the young woman to get into the back seat of her car, and as she complied, one of the men got into the drivers seat and began to drive away ass the other man climbed into the seat beside the woman.
I could only imagine the terror she must have felt as they began to drive out of town… it must have been too much to handle at one point judging from the vomit I had just cleaned off the carpet of the SUV.
But She Was Not Going to Go Quietly in to That Dark Night, Oh No!
Once she had her wits about her, she fight like a woman possessed against the captor sitting in the seat beside her, clawing and scratching. This is when I learned that the blood I had cleaned up was not the woman’s blood, but the man’s!
As he sat disabled in the back seat, clutching his injured eye, the woman managed to unlock the door and choosing the right moment, rolled out if the vehicle and down a grassy embankment. She fought for her life and she won it. The police later found the SUV abandoned in the parking lot of a grocery store a few miles from where the incident began, and had sent it to be analyzed for any clue to the identity of the men involved. The detective told me she was lucky to be alive…
