Hoarding is a serious issue.
It could go as deep as having a mental illness or suffering depression from a past traumatic experience. You would be surprised at how many people actually are hoarders and it poses a serious health risk if not cleaned up and disposed of properly. We here at Advanced Bio Treatment not only clean murders and suicides but we also clean up dirty hoarding scenes. We take this very serious because of the bacteria that can grow from years or even months of a disgusting hoarding scene. This particular call was from a woman asking us to help clean up her neighbor’s home. Apparently she was a compulsive hoarder of cats. We knew what to expect before we entered that home.
Hoarding cats is extremely disgusting. Not only can you forget about some of your cats and some could die, but think of all the urine and feces left everywhere. That was the case in this situation. This woman had over 200 cats in her small 900 square foot home. Her neighbor called us because the cat hoarder must’ve been embarrassed to ask for help but we aren’t here to judge you we are simply here to help you clean up and get your normal life back.
When we arrived on scene the neighbor who made the call met with us first. She was explaining how the cat hoarder does want help she just feels ashamed. The cats had been removed previously from a local animal shelter. All we had to worry about was cleaning up the leftover mess. We made our way to the home and we could already smell the ammonia in the air from the car urine. It was pretty horrific. We had to wear protective masks to prevent any health risks on ourselves.
The cat hoarder was very hesitant at first about letting us help her but she let us in and what we saw was just completely repulsive. There was feces and urine all over the house. There was a lot of cat hair everywhere. It seemed as it it was floating in the air. Every room in the house looked the same. The cats basically had taken over this house. We also had knowledge that in the back room there was five dead cats found that had already started to decompose.
We made sure to bring all the proper protective gear for us and all the special cleaners and biohazard bins to dispose of all potentially dangerous materials. We completely turned this cat house around into a clean, safe environment for the lady living there. We disinfected from top to bottom. You couldn’t even imagine cats once took over that place when we were finished.
We also understand and respect the emotions involved in an embarrassing hoarding situation. We will work with you in any way we can to ensure your life goes back to normal as fast as possible.
If you or if you know of someone that needs assistance with a hoarding clean up please don’t hesitate to call us 24/7.
