Family reunions should be an enjoyable time for people to reunite and catch up with each other.

Not every family has a good experience with their reunions, unfortunately, as was the case of this apparently highly dysfunctional family.

We arrived just after the police.  There were still members of the family hanging around talking, crying, shaking their heads in disbelief.  The neighborhood streets were lined with cars, apparently many of them were people who had been to the reunion.

We noticed a couple of them were extremely loud and apparently drunk.  There were empty beer cans all over the back yard, whiskey bottles, etc.  We made our way through to the backyard where the trouble took place.

It appeared there had been a cookout with lots of food still out on picnic tables.  Doesn’t appear that the reunion lasted long enough for everyone to finish eating as there was a lot of food left.

When we got a close look at the back deck we could not believe the amounts of blood and bits of flesh and body tissue, some of it in the yard.

Whatever started the fight, it ended in a brutal stabbing using a butcher knife and a whiskey bottle had been broken and used to cut the victims.

Two of the victims had been taken by ambulance to the emergency room.  However, one of the teenage boys died at the scene.  He died instantly when his cousin cut his neck with the broken whiskey bottle.  There seemed no end to the amount of blood that had squirted even on the siding of the house.

Blood permeated the deck and would require intense cleaning.  Blood borne pathogens can contain bacteria and viruses that can cause disease.  Exposure to infected blood and body fluids can quickly spread and need to be cleaned by professionals who have been properly trained.

It is imperative that only trained professionals attempt cleanup to avoid contamination and exposure.

For these reasons we wear protective gear, gloves, masks, and protective goggles.  We also have protective suits we wear in some cases.  We spent at least 3 and ½ hours on the deck itself.

ABT technicians are experienced and knowledgeable.  We have been trained to deal with family members in crisis situations such as this.

ABT techs are on call 24/7.  We hope you never need to call on us for assistance, but if you do ever need our help you can rest assured we will make every effort to promptly and efficiently work to restore your property back to normal.
