Suicide Of A Heroin Addict
It all started with a painkiller. J. Doe had suffered a knee injury and surgery didn’t see to get rid of the pain. Doctors prescribed Oxycotin and countless other pain pills which did knock the pain but after awhile she was used to it and needed something stronger. At a party she was introduced to Heroin which she instantly fell in love with it.
Heroin wasn’t hard to come by in California and she got it for much less than what she had been paying for pills. She had a problem with drinking in her early twenties and had been going to AA meetings.
The apartment had a few empty bottles of prescriptions for Subtex, also known as buprenorphine, a treatment for heroin addiction that is an alternative to methadone treatment. Also known as Suboxone, buprenorphine works by blocking the “high” users feel when they do heroin or opioid based pain killers.
The indication was that she had attempted to overcome the Heroin addiction by using the Subtex which blocked the high of Heroin which is supposed to help the addict stop.
Sadly, J. Doe must not have been able to stop the usage or just lost hope altogether. She shot herself in the head and died instantly. Her family tried to understand but couldn’t make sense of what had happened.
Heroin Addiction Is Growing At Alarming Rates
The stuff is too readily available on the streets. They have organizations that offer clean needles to people for goodness sake! Not sure how I feel about that, really. The recent death of Philip Seymour Hoffman brought attention to the rising problem as people were stunned at the amounts of heroin bags found in his apartment.
Suicide by shotgun is horrific and the scene should not be attempted to be cleaned by family members or anyone who hasn’t been trained. The emotional trauma of a suicide is devastating enough without adding to their emotional pain any further. Imagine the painful unanswered questions this family has and will continue to have in the future.
