Taking A Shot At Love

One thing this job has taught me, sometimes you never know who a person really is, even the people we think love us, until it’s too late. Take this recent call for a crime scene cleanup specialist that took me into a regular suburban neighborhood outside of Atlanta, Georgia.

On the drive to the house, I passed manicured lawns still glistening with the early morning dew, and front porches with carefully hung swings and flower pots still illuminated by the patio lights. Everything about these homes spoke of comfort and security, and I could imagine that the owners asleep inside might take a closer look at their neighbors once the story of John D. made its way over the meticulously cut hedges and around the mailboxes.

I learned from John D.’s family that he had been a pillar of the community, sacrificing a family as a young man to pursue his fortune in finance in the big city. It was there where John would eventually meet his wife, a much younger woman who had a taste for the finer things and with John just so happening to have the wealth to wine and dine her till her hearts contentment, it looked like a match made in heaven (but really hell!). After they married two years ago, they moved away from the city to begin a family in the quiet countryside.

Everything seemed like a dream come true and John D.’s family told me he had never been happier. Unfortunately for their loved one, happily ever after was not to be. At crime scenes, first impressions are not always accurate. Sometimes the killer intentionally tries to throw off the investigators by ‘staging’ the scene… kind of like a gruesome tableau. This was one of those instances. It was clear by the mess that there had been an awesome struggle… tables were flipped, the television was busted and glass was everywhere. A closer inspection revealed a door which appeared to have been broken into, suggesting that John D. had been home alone when he fell victim to a botched burglary.

Only problem was that no valuables were missing and in fact, the victim was laying in a massive pool of blood from a single gunshot wound to the head… right next to a tall jewelery box full of priceless gems and a unopened safe which was splattered with his brain matter.

When an accident or trauma has occurred at a home, industrial site, or traffic scene a professional cleaning service is crucial. Advanced Bio Treatment has the experience in all types of trauma and accident scenes and have the equipment and trained professional staff available at all times to deal with any situation. Attempting to handle the cleanup process individually will not only be traumatic for everyone involved, but you will never be sure if all the dangers have been removed.

A typical accident scene can have dangerous chemicals, blood, tissue, bodily fluids, urine, and feces

Just one of these biohazards can contain bacteria or pathogens that you would be exposing yourself and others to. We have trained crime scene clean up technicians that can handle all situations in every type of environment. As it turns out, John D. didn’t realize that his wife loved his money more than she loved him.

The police told me that what appeared to be a burglary gone wrong, was actually a murder for hire… or in this case, a lover who turned into a murderer to please the wife of the man who now laid lifeless amongst his worldly possessions. Did he think of his wife in his final few seconds on earth? Did he realize that she had planned and plotted his demise? We will never know. Apparently, the killer was a better lover than a criminal… he was found with a self inflicted gunshot wound to his head in his car with a note apologizing for his crime and vowing undying love for the woman who had used him for her own ends.

I later discovered that she had been arrested trying to empty the couple’s bank account out, with a one way ticket to Europe in her purse. Like I said, I guess sometimes you just never know if you’re sleeping with the enemy until it’s too late.
