Financial Woes Leads to Suicide for Orange Beach Man
Six months into his lease, John realized he had over extended himself to the point that he was going to make some serious decisions to change something, anything to make it better.
Work was going about as good as could be expected for this time of year. Thankfully he still had some savings set aside that would probably get him through at least one more month without having to move out of the house he and his wife were living in, they leased an upscale condominium on the beach. They both loved being near the ocean but the $2240 a month lease payment on top of everything else was putting the squeeze on him bad.
He had tried to have the talk with Jane numerous times about her spending. She insisted on paying top dollar for name brand everything, even toilet paper and milk! No compromising with her, the more it cost the better and this angered him every time he thought about it lately. And to think he used to think that was so cute about her.
Jane was relentless. She was on him from the minute he came in the door it seemed. Every day the same conversation. When? When? When? She wanted a baby, and she wanted it bad.
She had begun to annoy him in ways he had never imagined. He felt bad about the way he felt about her these days. Even her voice was starting to grate on him.
He Spent Many Hours Walking the Beach Contemplating What to Do
He want to divorce Jane. He did love her. A few weeks went by and there were no sales to be had, what the hell has happened to everyone? Doesn’t seem to be a soul in sight that wants to buy. No commission meant no paycheck.
John wanted desperately to fly up to New York and visit his parents. The last couple of years had been hard on them, their health had diminished right before his eyes and he couldn’t get away, no time off from work for at least another two months! Weekends were barely enough time to justify the amount it cost to fly there. He hated the stupid waiting game.
Sales tend to be slower in the months when school first starts and pick up again around the holidays for a couple of months, nothing unusual, ups and downs. If he could unload a couple of Mercedes this month he would be home free.
Thursday afternoon, John decided to have a talk with his boss about increasing his base salary. By the time the meeting was over, John knew if he didn’t start producing more that his base salary would not only decrease he might be out of a job altogether.
Insurance policy papers were found on the desk in John’s office the next morning with a note to Jane, “this should take care of you until you are able to take care of yourself, use it wisely. I am sorry I failed you.” John’s body lay in the floor next to his desk in a pool of blood, spatters on the desk, the walls, and tissue which was likely his brain on the floor by the revolver.
Suicide leaves behind loved ones who are hurting and who have numerous questions that often go unanswered, John’s story is a compilation of incidents, habits and factors that lead to his death.
