A few years ago, in Rochester, NY, the main hospitals in the city, like many across the country, were struggling with rising rates of illness caused by a particularly ferocious bacterium: Clostridium difficile. In an effort to reduce the risk of infection to its patients, four hospitals joined forces to beat back the debilitating bug, forming a C. difficile prevention collaborative. The Wall Street Journal article describes the program and how these four hospitals took on the bacterium.
