We received a call about a homicide cleanup that needed to be taken care of promptly.
An elderly man was found dead on the stairs in his garage, which appeared to be a shot to death. We were told by his wife that he was found later in the evening when she made her way home from work. She noticed the garage was open when it is almost always closed and that his car was parked, which was suspicious giving the fact he never got home before her. She immediately knew something wasn’t right. Apparently he worked as a social worker for many years in the Tampa area and recently was having some concerns raised about a family that was threatening him.
The victim worked as a social worker for the last ten years and his wife explained to us that he had to witness a lot of child abuse on a daily basis. He worked to protect children from parents who need a little guidance to get their lives back on track.
She was explaining to us that he recently took on a case with a mother who was using abusing drugs and neglecting her young son. Of course in those types of situations it’s much safer to remove the child from the home until the parents are clean and capable of caring for the child.
Apparently the woman with the young son was not in an agreement with the circumstances and had been making threats towards the social worker on a daily basis. He didn’t take it serious when he should have because she cold blooded murdered him in his own garage.
Once the police completed their investigation this is when we come in and finish the job.
The police and coroner only collect evidence and remove the body, the aftermath and the bloody messes are left for us the clean and dispose of. The elderly man was shot in the back and the bottom of the skull. When his body was found he had bled out all over the stairwell in the garage. The police said he was shot from behind with no chance for self-defense.
When we arrived on scene we met with the wife of the deceased.
We made sure to let her know that we respect her emotions dealing with such a tragedy and will do everything we can to bring some peace back to this hectic time. She showed us where the murder took place and it was much worse than we had originally imagined in our minds.
There was an enormous puddle of blood where he had been lying, and from there we got right to work. We disinfected and removed all traces of a murder. The garage was as good as new when we were complete.
The wife was distraught and upset during the entire process, and our onsite professionals understand the struggles the family is left behind with once a sudden and horrific murder occurs. We helped work with her insurance company and we comforted her as much as we could. This give us an enormous amount of pride in what we do. Our job isn’t for the faint hearted but someone has to do it, and knowing we can help families deal with such horrible situations gives us the motivation everyday!
