I’m a mommy’s boy… always been and I’m not ashamed to say it. Mothers are awesome, I think we can all agree, that why I my next case was troubling from the word go. It was a beautiful spring day just shortly after Mother’s Day when we were contacted by a middle aged woman who identified herself as the daughter of a woman who had recently been the victim of a terrible assault.
Immediately we got our tools together and headed out, eager to do what we could for this family. The drive was a pleasant one and took us through some of the older neighborhoods just outside of Baltimore, Maryland.
Pulling up to the charming residence, we were met by the caller, and led into the well maintained home. In a back master bedroom we came upon a massive pool of blood which covered a large patch of the beautiful wood floors. It was unbelievable how much blood there was, and it was apparent that some attempt to clean up the scene on their own had been made… a huge wad of paper towels sat to the side, drowned in the crimson liquid.
We Began to Methodically Restore this Family’s Matriarchal Home
I got a chance to ask the daughter what had taken place. She took a ragged breath, and after a moment’s hesitation, told me that her mother had been the victim of a drug crazed robbery attempt.
When the attacker realized that her mother had nothing in the way of medication or money in the home, they chugged a bottle of brandy and then began stabbing her with a knife from the kitchen until, thinking she was dead, they ran from the scene only to be picked up a block away trying to break into another house. But her mother was a fighter, and she managed to call for help with a pendant she wore around her neck.
All throughout the job I couldn’t believe that this woman had survived such a brutal attack… there was so much blood. But knowing that she was alive and would be returning to the home made it that much more important to me to wipe away all reminders of that terrible night. In the end, you couldn’t ever tell that anything had gone on there, and I heard she made a full recovery and has since moved back into the home…apparently with a very large German Shepard named Bruno.
