We received a call from a grieving family asking for our help. Apparently their grandmother had passed away and her body wasn’t discovered for eight days after the death took place. The family was explaining how the grandmother had an independent nature and refused to be put in a nursing home, so she demanded she stay in her home.
She also suffered from what was called dementia and forgot where and who she was a lot of the time.
The daughter of the grandmother came by the visit her mother and she noticed that her mail was piling up on the porch and was curious as to why she stopped answering the phone. The daughter had a spare key to home so she was able to enter in without forceful entry. The daughter had explained to us that when we made her way into the home she found her mother laying dead in her bed.
The family knew the grandmother had been suffering with depression and worried a lot about her which is why they offered to place her in a nursing home. The family was distraught and very concerned with how the process works. They just wanted to ensure that everything goes back to normal and they can grieve her death peacefully. Advanced Bio Treatment understands and respects the feelings involved in such a tragedy.
We knew that since her body was unattended for eight days that her body had already started to decompose and fluids were going to be leaking out. When we arrived to the home where to death occurred we made sure we had all of our biohazard waste materials and disinfecting cleaners.
Cleaning up unattended deaths is a crucial process that needs to be taken serious. We made sure that all evidence of human fluids, waste and blood was removed and that there was no chance of a health risk.
The smell was pretty horrendous and we had to wear masks to protect ourselves from any airborne bacteria. After the cleanup was completed you couldn’t even recognize there was a tragic death there.
