Why In The World I Do This Job

My honest answer is because as a child I was scraped, cut, and bleeding all the time so I got used to the site of it. I also grew up fascinated with the childhood games of cops and robbers and I was always the good guy helping out. As I became an adult, I knew a law enforcement career was not for me because I did not want to risk my life daily (just being honest), and I am more of the science guy than the hero. I still had the desire to help others so I did some job searching and stumbled upon ABT and Jerry explained the rewarding side of this job. I have been here ever since!

I have to admit there has been a few times when I thought I couldn’t do it any more. But I’ve learned to put scenes and situations out of my mind quickly. Some still come to mind often reminding me how evil people can be too each other.

The Real Question

Why should we have these kinds of crime scenes in the first place?

Today I reflect on the violence and it is heartbreaking to know so many violent endings to once mostly happy lives. I ponder on this job and am thinking once again, why? Could part of the problem be too many violent movies over the years have been fed into our youth as they grew up and now somehow they have come to think that is acceptable to take a chainsaw and hack someone’s body apart? Could it be the massive gun violence isn’t from responsible gun owners who are simply trying to protect themselves but rather those thoughtless Hollywood bastards who think they are so hot controlling the world’s minds with their movies and shows about mass murders and the like. Truly have to wonder how some people sleep at night with no conscience!

Can I openly and honestly say that I have never watched anything horrific, gruesome, hurtful, nasty, or shocking? No, I can’t. I’m sure there are people who can say that but I’m not one of them. But I can say, I may watch something brutal out of the simple fact it is entertaining at times. However, the gruesomeness does not cause me to go out and hack someone! Maybe killers have a nerve wired wrong in their brains or a major chemical imbalance that causes them to think a certain way? I don’t know and I will leave that to the neurosurgeons to find out!
