We have the expertise and equipment to completely restore and decontaminate any scene where a bio-hazard incident had occurred.
I’ve seen the aftermath of all types of deaths… suicide by shotgun, stabbings, even poisonings… but the case that stands out in mind my as one of the most grisly in terms of carnage involved a baseball bat. A Louisville slugger, to be precise. Judging by the crime scene we were called to remediate, the victim must have given new credence to the term, ‘foul play’.
We work closely with police and emergency personnel, who often recommend our services to families or property owners who may otherwise not know that a company like ABT, specializing in crime scene cleanup, even exists. Such was the case with the homeowner who contacted my company one hot, muggy day in early May. Apparently the tenant who rented out my clients house, located in a older working class neighborhood just outside of the city limits near Baltimore, Maryland, had met a gruesome end to his life and we were needed to restore the property to a rent-able condition.
As we pulled up in front of the small home, we were met by a police officer who was removing the yellow crime scene tape from the perimeter of the property. Recognizing the man from previous jobs we had performed in the area, I took a moment to inquire to the specifics of the homicide which had occurred inside. With a shake of his head, he pulled me into a quiet spot and began the horrid tale.
John Doe had been a young man who worked on the fringes of society, selling a variety of illegal substances to the young college crowd that lived around the city. Business had been good it seemed, and John D. developed a reputation for being well supplied… not necessarily a good thing in his line of work.
The night before we had been called to the scene, John had chosen to open his door to the wrong person and he was quickly forced into his room to the safe where he kept his stash and the money he had collected. The attacker must have gotten antsy and then angry as John Doe fumbled with the keys because in the next instance, the victim was struck repeatedly in the head with a baseball bat.
According to the officer, the attacker didn’t stop swinging until the victim’s head caved in like a over ripe watermelon.
Standing in the doorway to the victim’s room, I couldn’t believe the violence of the attack. Blood was literally everywhere: on the ceilings, doors, walls, floors… everything was splattered with blood and brain matter. The point of attack was clear… near the corner of the victim’s bed was the safe, painted crimson with blood, a large piece of John D. ‘s brain sitting next to it. It was a massive job… The entire home had to be cleaned, sanitized and decontaminated all the way down to the dry wall and sub flooring.
