Infectious waste is an issue

The technicians from Advance Bio-Treatment face infectious waste in our cleanup situations.

Let’s face it, staph, MRSA, cellulitis, etc., are nasty infections and they are contagious.

There are over 30 strains of staph but Staphylococcus aureus is the one that is the most common.

The spread of staph can be through direct contact with another person who has it, as in a pus infected draining wound or sore. Even days after the infection has cleared you could still become infected by coming in contact with contaminated items.

People who are at a higher risk are those with weakened immune systems, having chronic health issues, hospitalized. Also, daycares, prisons, dorms, gyms, pose a higher threat of spread of infection due to the high number of people and the quick spreading strength of the bacteria.

Its a good idea not to use the towels, sheets, clothes etc., of a person with a staph infection. Wash your hands often, and even wash their clothing separate for an extra precaution.

A staph infection can be contagious for as long as it is left untreated. It is best to catch it early and treat with antibiotics.

MRSA blood infection can begin in the skin. MRSA is common in hospitalized patients, however, the severity of symptoms of MRSA can become a much more serious and complicated infection.

Septicemia is the leading cause of death in a MRSA infection. Septicemia is bacteria of the blood which can cause the entire body to become infected including the bones, heart, nervous system. This can spread quickly and these are usually treated in a hospital stay.

Septicemia is not as common as other infections but is serious. Chills, fever, shaking, looks ill and has a change in mental faculty are symptoms and should be treated promptly. (Septicemia is sometimes referred to as blood poisoning.) Diagnosing and treating early can prevent shock and adrenal collapse.
