Angered driver Kevin Ward Jr. climbed out of his crashed vehicle and walked towards Steward’s Sprint car on the racetrack during a dirt-car race at Canandaigua (N.Y.) Motorsports Park. Nobody will ever know just quite what was racing through Ward Jr.’s mind at the time but it ended his life instantly. Steward’s car fishtailed with the right tire hitting Ward and dragging him under the car before throwing him several feet up the track.
Videos of the incident prove that Ward Jr. seemed determined to settle the score with Tony Stewart. Stewart’s past “driving-record” in racing has not been so clean and innocent. He is known as a “hothead” and has been in many confrontations himself; often using profane language and wagging his finger at other drivers, warning them that a flogging could come for causing him to wreck. Verbal and physical altercations also have unfolded in the garages or on pit road involving Stewart.
